Georgian 9ct rose gold mourning ring with inscription, UK M.5-N, US 6.75
A gorgeous antique Georgian mourning ring set with an oval east-west garnet cabochon in a serpent-like setting that once had black enamel on it which has been mostly lost, possibly once a brooch that has been attached to a wide gold band. It has an inscription on the back which is barely legible, Elizabeth….and I think 1816 1833, a much loved and much missed family member, I wish we knew more about her but that just adds to the mystery and romanticism of antique jewels.
Ring size; approx UK N, US around a 6.75
Hallmark; tests as 9ct gold
Weight; 5.3 grams
Dimensions; top of setting 26mm x 19mm, 8mm high
Condition; good used antique condition, sturdy shank, wear commensurate with age, most of the black enamel lost and the top looks as it has been lead soldered onto the band, a little wear to the garnet, perfectly wearable condition
