Ancient Roman coin Sol, sun god, in 18ct gold pendant

A superb ancient Roman bronze coin of the sun gold Sol, dating from AD 307-337,  depicted here striking a supremely god-like pose, holding the globe in one hand, with radiate crown, he embodied the certainty that light returned after the darkness and remains a universal symbol of hope in dark days. No Roman god shone as bright as Sol, the celestial god of the skies by day, brother to Luna the goddess of the night skies, their duality symbolising cosmic order ensuring light and time moved in perfect order. Sol represents the rising of the sun each day, a predictable renewal after the dark of the night and symbol of life’s eternal rhythms. On the reverse the head of Emperor Constantine ‘the great’, who incidentally loved to adorn himself from head to toes in jewels, a man after my own heart. 1700 years of history in your hands, each detail invites curiosity, these coins has travelled through time from the Roman Empire to being discovered by a detectorist as part of the Bourton on the Water hoard, parts of which are now in the Heberden Coin Room, Ashmolean Museum, Oxford. The gold surround is handmade by my jeweller in Hatton Garden, London, using recycled antique 18ct yellow gold.
